Private Investigator Training

Our training courses will prepare you for the role of private investigator and will enable you to apply for SIA registration once this is enacted by the government in the next few months. These courses are priced separately but please see the package price for 3 courses, which offers a significant discount over the cost of the individual courses.

Level 3 Award for Professional Investigators

The SIA have indicated that this will be the standard qualification for registration as a Private Investigator. The Level 3 Award for Professional Investigators (QCF) focuses on:

  • How to research information from various sources
  • Gather information through interviews
  • Have an overview of surveillance operations, both overt and covert
  • Gathering information in support of an investigation
  • Planning and reporting investigations. This includes identifying the objectives of the investigation, dealing with conflicts of interest and how to report and present the findings on the investigation

The qualification also deals with maintaining the security and confidentiality of all information during the investigation. Throughout, there is also the requirement of knowing and complying with the laws and regulations relevant to carrying out investigations.

This qualification is based on the SIA Specification for Learning and Qualifications for Private Investigators and Pre-Cognition activities.

We can support you through this qualification in four different ways.

Option 1 - A 5 Day course covering all of the learning outcomes culminating in an externally set and marked examination.

Option 2 - Distance learning course enabling you to study at your own pace. Supported throughout by an experienced investigator to give advice and assess your work. Once complete there is a 1 day consolidation course booked at your convenience culminating in an externally set and marked examination.

Price £449 + vat

Option 3 - For experienced investigators. This includes an interview to allow our assessor to accredit your prior experience. This is followed by a 1 day revision course where any gaps in your experience can be addressed followed by an externally set and marked examination.

Price £249 + vat

Option 4 - For experienced investigators. This includes an interview to allow our assessor to accredit your prior experience followed by an externally set and marked examination without any further training.

All prices include registration and certification fees with the awarding body.

Covert Surveillance - Entry Level

This course is aimed at investigators who wish to gain an insight into covert surveillance planning, procedures and practice. Taken by experienced trainers with extensive police and / or military surveillance experience this course will cover static, foot and mobile surveillance tactics including assessing risk and log keeping. Lasting 4 days this course is run over 2 consecutive weekends and will include practical exercises.

Open Source Intelligence

A 1 day course for investigators who need to gather information and intelligence from the internet. This course shows how to interrogate open areas of the internet to discover information about individuals or companies. Subjects covered will include interrogating emails, internet sites, social media, blogs, telephone numbers addresses and company and business information.

Course Location

These courses will be run from state of the art training facilities with excellent transport connections on the outskirts of Ipswich, Suffolk. Courses are non residential but there are 2 reasonably priced hotels within walking distance of the venue. Special rates may be negotiable so please ask if you are considering booking a room. There is ample free parking at the venue.

If your company is interested in running any of these courses at your own premises we may be able to offer a discount on delegate rates, subject to sufficient delegates registering.

In the case of the Level 3 Award for Professional Investigators you would need to allow access to a room that complies with examination rules and this would need to be pre-authorised.

    In the Domesday Book of 1086, the Glossop name refers to the hamlet that was small that to a recorded ancient parish gave its name, and then the manor given by William I of England to William Peverel. Glossop, Dinting, Padfield, Whitfield, Simmondley, Charlesworth, Chunal, Ludworth, Chisworth and nine more: Thornsett, Mellor, Whittle (Whitle), Rowarth, Ollersett, Beard, Little Hayfield, Hayfield, Kinder, Phoside, Chinley, Brownside, and Bugsworth include townships of the manor that the Glossop ancient parish consisted of.

    Dinting, Padfield, Chunal, Charlesworth, Simmondley, Chisworth, Ludworth, Whitfield, and the Glossop village, called Old Glossop includes the territory that the Manor of Glossop was made up of. Conferring the manor of Glossop on Basingwerk Abbey, the mention of a church in Glossop is in the charter of 1157. Between 1898 and 1915, Glossop North End were members of Football League and around the turn of the 20th century played in Division One.

    Holding vinyl listening sessions on the second Thursday of each month, at Glossop Labour Club is the Glossop Record Club. Part of the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation, the Mountain Rescue Team of Glossop that volunteer provide search and rescue services. Featured on the BBC's Songs of Praise, Glossop Victorian Weekend was the biggest event in Glossop.

  • Investigating Glossop

    With its riverside footpath and mature trees, Harehills Park has been identified by Glossop Vision as an open space, and was donated by the 2nd Lord Howard of Glossop as a First World War memorial. When they amalgamated with Derbyshire Constabulary, Glossop Police remained independent until 1947. When West of the High Street to a 3 feet (0.9 m) depth was flooded, Glossop has a history of flooding, the most recent being in 2002.

    Run by CAMRA and featuring over 30 beers and a barbecue in Glossop's Labour Club, running parallel was the Beer Festival of Glossop with Victorian Weekend. In the peat moorland commonly known as the Dark Peak, it lies on a River Etherow tributary, the Brook of Glossop. Under the Local Government Act 1958, Glossop was in the "South East Lancashire Special Review Area" and the 1969 Redcliffe-Maud Report recommended inclusion in a metropolitan area for North East Cheshire-South East Lancashire.

    Built St Charles's and St Mary's, Glossop, Ellisons and Norfolks and Francis Sumner were Catholic. Carboniferous Millstone Grit areas, sandstone and shales lie beneath Glossop. Established in 1976, Glossop Operatic and Dramatic Society is a musical/drama society. Every Saturday, Glossop's parkrun takes place in Manor Park.
